Propylene pentamer (C15) is used in synthetic lubricant base stocks, specialty additives, and surfactant intermediates. Its higher molecular weight compared to trimer/tetramer suits applications requiring lower volatility.

Pentamer (C15) is produced in much smaller volumes than trimer (C9) or tetramer (C12) in oligomerization units. Its limited production and specialized applications make it less available and typically higher-priced.

Pentamer’s C15 molecular weight gives it higher viscosity and lower volatility than lighter oligomers. These properties are valuable in synthetic lubricant formulations where film strength and low evaporation are needed.
