What is TEA primarily used for?

TEA is used as a pH adjuster in cosmetics and personal care products, as a grinding aid in cement production, in metalworking fluids as a corrosion inhibitor, and in polyol and lubricant formulations.

In cement production, TEA acts as a grinding aid that reduces particle agglomeration during milling. This improves grinding efficiency, reduces energy consumption, and can increase cement strength by improving particle size distribution.

TEA is available in 85% aqueous solution (most common for industrial use) and 99% anhydrous grade for applications requiring low water content. Cosmetic-grade TEA meets purity standards for personal care formulations.

TEA is generally not classified as dangerous goods for ADR transport. It’s non-flammable and has relatively low toxicity, simplifying logistics compared to other amines. Standard handling precautions still apply.
